Corrective Exercise & Stretching
Rehabilitation Exercises
The exercises Dr. Ian prescribes are built around what your specific assessment reveals. They're designed to work hand-in-hand with manual therapy and adjustments to help your body move more efficiently and hold the gains from each session.
For most patients, this is the missing piece. If you're someone who feels like you can't “hold” an adjustment, it's usually because the muscles supporting that joint aren't doing their job. Strengthening weak or inhibited muscles allows joints to move correctly — which means less pain and better long-term function.
The exercises are never cookie-cutter. Every patient is treated as a unique case with a plan built around their body, their goals, and their lifestyle.
Stretching
Stretching at Fenton Spine & Sport works in unison with the rest of your treatment plan. Dr. Ian is trained in soft tissue release techniques and trigger point therapy — both of which are highly effective for the muscle tightness and pain we see most often in the clinic.
Muscle stretching and proper warm-ups matter throughout the day.
Some stretching techniques are most effective when guided by Dr. Ian directly during your visit. Others are designed for you to perform on your own, and you'll be sent home with a focused set of stretches built around your specific needs.
The goal is the same with every stretch we prescribe: reduce trigger point activity and tight muscle tissue so you can move more effectively and with less pain.
